On Monday 27 November VocalEyes hosted Museum Hour on Twitter. Museum Hour is a weekly conversation between people working at or interested in museums, taking place on Mondays from 8.00 – 9.00pm, with a different theme each week. We prepared eight prompts, such as ‘How can museums with limited resources increase support for blind and partially sighed visitors?’ and posted them throughout the hour, using the @museumhour account. The responses flooded in, using the hashtag #museumhour. Our Chief Executive Matthew Cock, Deputy Director Toby Davey and Museum Programme Manager Anna Fineman were online throughout the hour, engaging in the fast-paced dialogue, while participants also continued threads with each other.
We have created a summary of the discussion using Storify, which is posted below. It was a very encouraging experience to hear from so many museum professionals striving to make their workplaces more inclusive to blind and partially sighted visitors. We look forward to continuing the discussions, and further collaborating with them.
