Asian Art Museum Zooms Tibetan Buddhist Art

On July 30 at 11:30 (19:30 UK time), docent Michelle Wilcox will lead a highly descriptive Zoom tour of the shuttered exhibition Awaken: A Tibetan Buddhist Journey Toward Enlightenment at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, California. UK art lovers are also invited to join!

Deborah Clearwaters, Director of Education and Interpretation, has developed a superb audio description of the exhibit that opened in January but then closed prematurely in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic. Michelle has picked up the ball to lead an hour-long talk about the Buddhist tradition practiced in the Himalayas and what makes it unique. Selected pieces from the Awaken Exhibit will be used to illustrate the origins of this tradition and how the art aids the devotee on the journey to Enlightenment.

While a Zoom tour is not quite the same as being in the gallery with the art and artefacts, the describer and other participants, it’s also an amazing opportunity to join a tour that a few months ago, we’d not consider was possible. This is the future of
