Following the sensational discovery of Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self Portrait as Saint Catherine of Alexandria in France in 2017, The National Gallery in London acquired this painting by the most famous female painter of the 17th century, whose work had not previously been represented in the Gallery’s collection. More information about the painting on the National Gallery website.
In March 2019, the painting began a series of pop-up visits to five unusual and unexpected venues across the UK, starting with Glasgow Women’s Library on 6 March. We will update this page with information about the tour as soon as each new venue is revealed. More information about the tour on the National Gallery website.
The National Gallery commissioned VocalEyes to produce a recorded audio description of the painting, which you can play or download on this page.
