Visit the Library’s purpose-built Conservation Studio where conservators work to preserve and protect items from our collections. This tour takes you behind the scenes for an insight into what’s involved in looking after books and other vulnerable items in the Library’s care. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, view objects close up and feel the materials and tools used in their work.
Available to use during tours to enhance your visit:
FM radio tour guide system for people who are hard of hearing.
IPad for magnification of objects/images.
All tours last approximately 75 minutes and depart from the main entrance information desk. Please note that bags (including handbags) and coats cannot be taken into the studios. The cloakroom is found on the lower ground floor or items can be left in the manager’s office.
Tours are not suitable for children under 12.
