Wellcome Collection is taking part in Disabled Access Day, a national day organised by Euan’s Guide to highlight accessible venues across the country. The Wellcome Collection are the proud recipients of Euan’s Guide Venue of the Year award, 2018.

Events are drop-in. You don’t need to book in advance, but spaces are limited.

Trepanation station

Audio-described – please meet at the Information Desk on Level 0

Join us on this hands-on audio described workshop of ancient trepanning. Our Visitor Experience Assistant Rock, trained in audio description techniques by VocalEyes, will facilitate a tactile experience making use of the tools and techniques of Neolithic brain surgery.

Please be aware that equipment for this activity includes sharp flint and animal parts (deer antler and tendon), and that all participants must be able to wear safety goggles throughout (provided by us).

Music in Medicine

Audio-described – please meet in the Reading Room, Level 2

From ancient rituals to today’s music therapy, the history of music and medicine have been intertwined. Listen to pieces of music from different time periods and discuss their expected and actual effects on the body and the mind. Our Visitor Experience Assistant Nelly is trained in audio description techniques by VocalEyes.
