Access information

The Fortune Theatre is situated in Covent Garden. The main entrance is opposite the side of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, just beyond the west end of the Covent Garden Piazza. The full address of the Fortune Theatre is Russell Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2B 5HH.

If you are arriving by car there are drop off points in Russell Street.  The Fortune Theatre is within the London Congestion Charge Zone.  The nearest car park is the Covent Garden Parker Street car park. There is also parking on Russell Street which can be paid at a machine or by phone or text. It costs 4.40per hour.

The Fortune Theatre is part of the Q-Park Scheme. The nearest participating car park is the 24hr Q Park Chinatown Car Park. The address is 20 Newport Place, WC2H 7PR. Parking costs £18 for up to 3hrs, but theatregoers can save 50% if they have their ticket validated at the theatre. Further information is available at:  www.q-park.co.uk/theatreland.

If you are coming by underground please note that although Covent Garden is the nearest station to the Fortune theatre, it is a very busy station and will be exit only until summer 2015, whilst lift replacement work takes place. Westbound Piccadilly line trains will not stop at Covent Garden on weekends during this time.  Leicester Square tube station on the Northern and Piccadilly lines or Holborn on the Central are about ten to fifteen minutes walk away.

The nearest train station is Charing Cross, which is about 15 minutes walk from the theatre. Buses: 1, 59, 68, 91, 139, 171, 188, stop in Kingsway or the Aldwych, both a five minute walk from the theatre. For buses to Covent Garden use 24, 29 or 176.

There is a taxi rank right outside Charing Cross Station and another on the entrance to Covent Garden Piazza.

The main entrance to the theatre has four sets of double doors into the foyer which open towards you.  There are no steps and once inside the Box Office is to the right.  You can collect your headset and large print or braille cast list here. If you would like to listen to the introductory notes in the auditorium 15 minutes before the start, please collect your headset in good time to take your seat.

The Fortune Theatre was built in 1924 in the early Art Deco Style. It is a listed building  and the foyer features a brass clad box office, marble walls  and many of the original light fittings.

Access to the stalls is down 21 steps.  The dress circle is up 7 steps and the Upper circle up 40 steps. There are ladies toilets on all levels and gents toilets in the stalls and upper circle.

There are three licensed bars selling beverages and confectionery. The stalls bar is level with the stalls auditorium, and the mezzanine bar is ten steps up from the dress circle. The third bar is in the upper circle.  There is a cloakroom in the Stalls Bar Kiosk.

The Fortune is a small, intimate theatre seating 432 patrons.  The audirorium is a horse-shoe shape with stalls, a Dress Circle and an Upper Circle.  There are boxes on each of the circle levels.  The seating is blue-green in the stalls and dress circle and red in the upper circle, and seats flip up when not in use.  The floors have green carpeting and the walls are blue-grey with art deco features.  There are ornamental railings at the front of the circle levels. In the stalls the floor slopes down towards the stage and there are stepped aisles in the circle level.

Guide dogs are allowed  in the auditorium during the performance, but please note that there may be loud sound effects during the show.  If you do not wish to take your dog into the auditorium,  theatre staff will be happy to look after your dog for you.  If you have not already done so, please advise the theatre in advance if you are bringing a dog.
