The Marlowe is situated in The Friars, just off Canterbury High Street. The full address is The Marlowe Theatre, The Friars, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2AS.
If you are arriving by car there is a drop off point available at the theatre, with step free access to the main foyer. For further details please contact the theatre direct. There are a number of car parks within easy walking distance of the theatre, as well as a number of Blue Badge parking bays, which are allocated on a first come first served basis. Canterbury City Council also runs a Park and Ride service from Wincheap, New Dover Road and Sturry Road. This service finishes at 7.30pm, which makes it unsuitable for customers attending evening performances.
Canterbury bus station is the main bus terminus serving Canterbury City Centre. Timetables for various routes, serving the entire county of Kent and beyond, can be found on the Stagecoach website.
The nearest train station is Canterbury West, which is about half a mile from the theatre.
The Marlowe has two auditoriums – the main theatre which seats 1200 on three levels, and a studio, which is a flexible multi-purpose space accommodating up to 166 people seated and 300 people standing.
There are permanent wheelchair positions available in the main auditorium and in the Studio, and fully accessible toilets on every floor of the building. There is also lift access to every floor.
There are bars on all three levels and The Greenroom Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Menus are available on the theatre’s website and advance booking is advised.
To listen to the audio description, please ask at the box office for a headset, and they will be happy to explain their use. Large print and braille cast lists are also available. If you would like to listen to the introductory notes, you should collect your headset in good time to take your seat, 15 minutes before the start of the performance. This is also a good opportunity to check you are happy with the reception through your headset. Please contact a member of staff if you are having any difficulties.
