Riverside Studios, London – Access Information – July 2021
How to get there:
The theatre’s address is: Riverside Studios, 101 Queen Caroline Street, London, W6 9BN.
The theatre is a five minute walk from Hammersmith Station, and is situated beside the Hammersmith Bridge crossing.
The entrance is on a pedestrianised part of the river Thames walkway, but Queen Caroline Street ends just 20 metres from the front door – and customers can be dropped off here.
There are new parking restrictions in the immediate area around Riverside: £1.60 for 30 minutes, Monday to Sunday 0830 – 2200 for two hours maximum parking.
If you continue driving along Crisp Road towards Fulham Reach, turn left onto Chancellor’s Road, and then first right on to Winslow Road where restricted parking is available from 9am to 5pm.
On-street parking can be paid for through RingGo
For electric cars, there is a Source London charging station nearby, adjacent to 42a Hammersmith Bridge Road.
Please note that Hammersmith Bridge is currently closed, reducing access via road – you can view alternative routes on the Transport for London website: tfl.gov.uk
Hammersmith Station is serviced by the following tube lines: Piccadilly, District, Circle and Hammersmith and City. The Station is wheelchair friendly and there are no stairs or ramps between the station to the theatre. Immediately behind the station is Hammersmith Broadway Bus Station, which sits in in the middle of a busy roundabout.
Hammersmith Broadway is serviced by the following buses: 9, 9a, 10, 11, 27, 33, 72, 91, 220, 283, 295.
Leaving Hammersmith Broadway via the south exit towards Fulham (there is a Tesco metro and a Costa Coffee at this exit), walk towards the Hammersmith Apollo. Turn left down Queen Caroline Street and the theatre is located at the end of the road, on the left.
There is a ‘Riverside Studios’ sign on the corner of the building as you walk towards it. The entire building front is glass affording views into the buildings, box office, café and restaurant.
There are no stairs to the entrance – it is all on the flat. There are two pairs of double doors – one for entry on the left, and one for exit on the right. They are push & pull and fairly heavy but also have assisted opening buttons if required. All doors are glass.
Once inside the foyer, you will discover that the building is very modern and sleek, with lot of visible silver duct work on the ceiling.
The building is quite bright overall but is brighter towards the front of the building as the front is all glass. The sun shines in during the afternoon and can be very bright.
The building is open all day, usually from 9am. There is usually some low level ambient music playing throughout the building.
The café will be immediately in front of you as you enter, and sells a selection of coffees, sandwiches, cakes and light snacks.
The box office is on the right as you enter the building, and is quite industrial looking in its style. It has a large, curved desk with two different heights for ease of access. There are television screens above displaying what’s happening in the building.
The theatres Front-of-House staff will be located at the box office and will be wearing Riverside Studios lanyards around their necks.
Currently customers are being issued with e-tickets and these will need to be shown to a member of the box office staff on arrival.
To the right of the box office, you will find the restaurant with lots of ample seating. It offers a wide ranging menu. Please note: there are some columns in the restaurant area of the building, towards the Atrium space. This open area has light coming down from a ceiling skylight. There will likely be tables and chairs here, as well as artworks on the walls.
The venue’s theatres are all on the ground floor and can be accessed by wheelchairs, with no use of stairs. The cinema is in the basement and can be accessed via a lift.
There are toilets, including accessible toilets at the end of the atrium, accessed via three stairs or alternatively a ramp. They’re hidden behind a wall but there are signs on the walls to locate them. There are no doors to the toilets entrances.
Prior to performances, it can be busy in the building and is therefore be louder at these times.
The doors to theatre usually open around 15-30 minutes before the performances starting time. There is only one route to the auditorium (Studio 3), which is to the left of the box office.
There is a glass door, which will be open, and going through this there is a short walk (up a slight ramp) to the doors of Studio 3. The studio is on the right-hand side and Front-of-House staff will be there to assist, and show to your seats.
You will enter at the front of the auditorium with the seating on your left-hand side. The seating bank is raked with small stairs to each row.
The auditorium is a black box space and has an end-on seating bank. The seats are black with between 18-20 per row with an aisle in the middle. The seats flip up and are numbered on the underside of the seating. Due to COVID, only certain seats are available and numbered. Wheelchair positions are in front of the seating bank, on each side, and will be located by Front-of-House staff upon arrival.

Assistance dogs are very welcome in the building and staff will be happy to provide water bowls if required. Assistance/guide dogs are allowed in the auditorium should you deem this appropriate. Alternatively, our Front-of-House staff can look after your dog during the performance. Please note that the venue does not have a designated “spending” area.
If possible, please do inform Riverside Studios in advance if you are attending with a guide dog or have any specific access requirements.
The venue uses Sennhesier’s Mobile Connect system to broadcast audio description over WiFi. It does not have any receivers available for customers, who are asked to bring along a smart phone, tablet or i-pod, along with appropriate headphones in order to access the service. If there is an issue, please do speak to a member of the Front-of-House team who may be able to help.

COVID-19 safety guidelines are being followed to make sure your visit to Riverside is as safe as possible.
Theatre capacity has been reduced and seats must be purchased in 2’s and 4’s with your household or social support bubble. If you need to buy a ticket for an odd number of people, these may be available but will need to be allocated on a show by show basis. Your seats will be allocated by the Venue Operations team on the day of the performance so that we can ensure that there is at least 1m space between groups of visitors. You are encouraged to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
The venue will be randomly checking the temperature of all guests. If someone is found to be fever-ish, they will be asked to come back another time.
All staff, except for those who are medically exempt, will be wearing face masks to protect themselves, and you, and the venue asks that you do the same.
The venue is required to keep a register of all customers and this is done by scanning the venue’s QR code for the NHS Track & Trace app.
Numbers of people in the building will be monitored, and where they are, and access will be restricted when social distancing becomes difficult to manage.
All staff are required to adhere to strict and safe hand washing following government guidance. Washing hands at least every 30 minutes for 20 seconds with warm water and soap is essential.

More cleaners have been contracted to constantly monitor the building and make sure our public spaces and bathrooms are frequently wiped down and cleaned.
Please keep your distance to at least 1m, and stay within your bubbles of no more than six people. Bubbles will be observed when seats are allocated – so while you may not be able to chose your own seat, you’ll know it is a safe one!
No orders will be taken in our Bar & Kitchen beyond 10pm.
